Haywood Tavern will be showcasing Belgian Beers on Wednesday, August 24th from 7pm until close. We will be tapping a selection of rare finds and old standards, and will also be giving a pair of Riot Fest tickets that night!
Food pairings will also be available. Hope to see you there!
Beers will include:
Brasserie La Caracole
BELGIAN BROWN ALE
A very complex artisanal Wallonian brown ale, rich, warming, little piquant in the mouth with licorice, mocha flavors, pear and toasted bread background notes.
Duchesse De Bourgogne
FLEMISH RED ALE
A traditional Flemish red ale. This refreshing ale is matured in oak casks; smooth with a rich texture and interplay of passion fruit, and chocolate, and a long, dry and acidic finish. After the first and secondary fermentation, the beer goes for maturation into the oak barrels for 18 months. The final product is a blend of younger 8 months old beer with the 18 months old beer. The average age of the Duchesse de Bourgogne before being bottled is 12 months.
A whole-hearted premium pils with a refined flavor and well-balanced taste. Starts off slightly sweet with retained bitterness, developing into a dry and thirst-quenching drink.
Brouwerij St. Bernard
St. Bernardus Pater 6
ABBEY BROWN ALE
From Brouwerii St. Bernard in Belgium, this is a traditional abbey style dubbel, chestnut in color, very fruity with notes of melon and very fresh banana, finishing with slight bitterness. Delightfully easy to drink.
Belgian Strong Dark Ale
A melange of 4 special malts results into this unusual colour, light darkbrown going into russet. The aromas of hop and special malts are creating the dominating taste in this beer. The "Moinette brune" combines a slight bitterness with a fruity touch.
Vanberg & DeWulf
Lambrucha combines hand-selected Lambics that are a minimum of one year old, and specially brewed organic Belgian Kombucha. Kombucha, a deliciously tart and effervescent beverage made with fermented mushrooms, has been enjoyed in Central Asia for hundreds of years.
Combining a richly sweet, honeyed Tripel and perfectly balancing it with a sour-sweet Gueuze, Dilewyns creates a brand-new beer that is dry and crisp, with a complex tannic character.
Brasserie Dupont/Lost Abbey
A complex and thirst-quenching beer, Deux Amis has the trademark flavor of Dupont’s signature peppery yeast accentuated with vibrant notes of tropical fruit—grapefruit, passion fruit, mandarin and mango—all balanced by aromatic hints of clove and pine.
Omer Vander Ghinste
Kriek De Jacobins
The basic ingredient of our Jacobins Kriek is wort made of wheat and malted barley. This wort is first boiled and then transported to the brewery’s open cooling vessel to cool down. Afterwards it spontaneously ferments in big oak barrels, giving the beer its refined flavour and aroma. To obtain its true “kriek” or cherry flavour, natural cherry juices are also added. The fruitiness of the aroma clearly reveals itself in the mouth. Our Jacobins Kriek has a well-balanced, pleasant and slightly sweet flavour.
This light ale has a deep golden colour with a smooth, frothy head. It is very perfumed with an unmistakable hint of aromatic hops and a fruity (citrus) note from the spices used in production. The body has an intense yet distinctive bitterness and a strong malty taste which is a delight to the palate. The overall effect, however, is a slight dryness and hoppiness.
Sour Barrel #2
The Belgian Sour Barrel 2 as result of a mixed fermentation was aged for over 1.5 years in French Oak barrels. The Ale is brewed with barley malt and wheat and fermentation was done with a “ step by step “ mixed culture of Saccharomyces , Brettanomyces , Lactobacteria and Acidicbacteria . The unique maturation and acidification gives the sour ale a smooth acid-astringent character with a sour fruity aroma.
This three-grain beer brewed with Steiermark hops has good herbal flavours. It owes its fruity character (banana and vanilla) to the home-cultured yeast. The vanilla mingles with the orange-like aroma from the hops. Not only does it have the lightness and freshness of the wheat, it also has the creaminess of oats and a herbal, lemony dryness almost reminiscent of quinine. There is plenty of citrus in the note, also bitter lemon and sugar. A bit of malt on the tongue combined with sweet ripe fruit - exotic like banana. The finish also offers light citrusy touches but sweet malts as well.
